Community outreach

We are here to support the community ensuring confidentiality which is so important in Ceredigion.

We believe everyone deserves to live a life free from fear and harm. Not everyone has spoken to anyone about their experiences of domestic or sexual abuse and may not even recognize that they are being subjected to abuse.

Through our community outreach work we reach into any area of Ceredigion. We hope to raise awareness and help enable those who do not know about us have a chance to discuss issues with us.

We can come to any event or if you would like us to come and talk to you, attend a meeting or just visit do please get in touch. We support individuals and families affected by domestic abuse through education, awareness, and compassionate support.

We work in and with community members to break the silence around abuse and ensure survivors know help is available — safely, confidentially, and without judgment. Our goal is to build safer, more informed communities where survivors are heard, supported, and empowered to make the choices that are right for them.

We deliver accessible sessions that help people understand domestic abuse in a safe, respectful way, including:

  • Domestic abuse awareness talks
  • Healthy relationships sessions
  • Age-appropriate workshops for children and young people
  • Community presentations and events

All sessions are adapted to the audience and delivered with sensitivity.

We offer training to help professionals feel more confident in responding to domestic abuse, including:

  • Domestic abuse awareness talks
  • Ask & Act Training
  • Children and how they experience domestic abuse
  • Training can be tailored to different roles and levels of experience.

Early support can make a real difference. We can help organisations:

  • Recognise early warning signs
  • Understand barriers to disclosure
  • Create safer spaces for conversations
  • Develop clear and compassionate response pathways

We value working alongside other organisations and services. This may include:

  • Joint projects or initiatives
  • Consultation and advice
  • Policy or procedure input
  • Building local networks and shared learning

Community garden project

We started our community garden project in Spring 2024 with a garden package from Keep Wales Tidy.  The garden projects aims to support wellbeing and intergenerational bonding within the Cardigan Community.

We are looking forward to developing our Garden project in Spring 2026 with a grant received from Tesco Stronger Starts and working with Blue Green Cymru.  We will be expanding the range of food produce grown in the garden and developing activities to support all ages, including camp fire cooking of fresh garden produce, making dyes and paints from flowers and nurturing the bio-diversity of wildlife.

The Community garden welcomed the help of CYP’S and clients to help plant some veg in our new planters and paint some beautiful flower pots.

We hold community outreach events to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure people know where to turn for help. By being visible and accessible, we reach individuals who may otherwise remain unseen and help build safer, more supportive communities.

We believe prevention starts with awareness. Our community outreach events exist to educate, challenge harmful norms, and empower people with knowledge about healthy relationships and available support. By engaging directly with the community, we work to reduce isolation, encourage help-seeking, and create safer spaces for everyone.

Our next event will be on our Events page.

International Day to End Violence against Women 25th of November & White ribbon events

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, held each year on November 25th, is a global call to action to raise awareness and end violence against women and girls. The day is marked by events and campaigns focused on educating communities, championing the rights of women and girls, and inspiring collective action to stop violence.

The day is also followed by the 16 days of Activism is a global campaign held each year from November 25th to December 10th, dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action to end violence against women and girls.

White Ribbon is a global movement working to end men’s violence against women and girls. It engages men and boys to promote respect, equality, and healthy relationships, and to challenge the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence to occur. By encouraging positive leadership and accountability, White Ribbon aims to create safer communities for everyone. At WWDAS we are working with the WI, Dewis Choice, Aberystwyth University with men who are dedicated to working with us to eliminate all forms of violence and abuse.

This was an historic day for West Wales Domestic Abuse Service as we had an official opening of our Branwen Centre in Cardigan. It was a day to raise awareness, to build collaboration with other organisations in Ceredigion and to showcase the amazing work of the WWDAS adult and children’s teams and the Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire IDVA service which we manage on behalf of the Dal I Godi Partnership. Supported by our central team of administration and finance, the day included a thank you to all who support us whether through working with us, funding us or just ensuring that they tell others about the work we do.

We had over 50 members of the public attending the open day. We were very proud to have the Mayor of Cardigan, Police and Crime Commissioner, Police Officers, Council officers, Cardigan and Ceredigion County Councillors, Hywel Dda, amongst many others join us for the Official Opening Ceremony.

This year we joined forces with the WI in Aberystwyth where  men pledged their support in ending violence against women and girls at a White Ribbon Day event.

On Saturday 22 November 2025, survivors, male ambassadors and organisations gathered in the bandstand to mark White Ribbon Day, a global campaign standing up against violence against women and girls.

The theme ‘We Speak Up for change’, highlights how everyday sexism from ‘jokes’ to casual comments isn’t harmless. The aim was encouraging more men to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

MP Ben Lake and MS Joyce Watson joined Aberystwyth Mayor Emlyn Jones, the Dyfed High Sheriff Ann Jones and community members to listen to testimony from survivor Leigh and ambassadors working against misogyny and sexism in the community.

Christmas with WWDAS

Christmas time at WWDAS is a very special time where we see the good hearts of the people in our community with their generous donations to the survivors we help day to day. As a show of appreciation we started our annual free Santas grotto in both the north and south of the county in 2025, where children can come and meet Santa as well as story time and arts and crafts.
