Black and Minoritised People
All of our support and interventions are inclusive and can be accessed by individuals of any age or ability. We also recognise that some groups of women are disproportionately affected by domestic abuse, which is why we’ve launched a new service to address violence and abuse in older people and we also work with BAWSO in Aberystwyth to support Black and minoritized women
We work with individuals, the community and professionals to raise awareness of domestic abuse, equality and Diversity through engagement and Education.
We offer interpreting services via Language line which can be accessed 24/7, 365 days of the year for individuals whose preferred language is not English. We can also support our work through translation of our information and if you contact us we can support and ensure the correct translated materials are forwarded to you. We realise that not all people are able to read in the language they speak so are happy to help ensure you get the correct type of support in a way that works for you in a safe and confidential way.
Route to Support
When a person with no or limited English is referred to us, either by themselves or someone else, we will find out what language they speak before arranging an appointment either face to face using an interpreter on the speakerphone or in a conference call. Language Line has interpreters who can speak over 240 languages.
Support plans will be tailored in a way that can be understood by both the support worker and the service user, and that improve a person’s independence, safety, feeling of empowerment and quality of life as well as their knowledge of the English language if it is something they want or need.
