Coercive controlling behaviour defined by the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 is a pattern of behaviour including threats, humiliation and intimidation that is used to harm, punish, control or frighten another person. It is not a single incident, but a pattern of behaviour that is used to gain control of a partner, ex-partner or family member. Perpetrators use coercive and controlling behaviour to exploit insecurities and vulnerabilities, making their victims feel frightened, confused and intimidated.
